The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) Engagement & Partnerships Manager in Rockville, Maryland


Summary of the Position

The Engagement and Partnerships Manager will play a critical role in driving comprehensive external engagement and visibility strategies that help shine a light on the impact of USP’s Global Health programs. A key liaison between internal and external stakeholders, this position will be responsible for managing engagement activities with priority stakeholder groups; translating technical topics into compelling narratives and collateral; conceptualizing and orchestrating USP’s Global Health presence at international conferences, webinars, and other events; and refining and executing USP’s Global Health social media strategy. This is a non-supervisory position reporting to the Senior External Engagement Manager.

Roles and Responsibilities

Partner Engagement

  • In support of USP’s Global Health Partnering Pillar and in collaboration with Global Health technical and business development colleagues, develop and execute engagement approaches and strategies for priority stakeholders, organizations, and partners.

  • Identify opportunities for increasing engagement with target audiences including donors, membership organizations, and partners.

  • Elevate and amplify USP’s thought leaders, influencers, and organizational expertise by polishing op-eds, talking points, presentations, and other relevant collateral around key moments and opportunities.

  • Support and provide guidance to staff in preparation for engagement opportunities such as interviews, events, webinars, and meetings.


  • Support end-to-end development of digital and print communications collateral including drafting copy; managing review, editorial, and design processes; and planning and executing dissemination strategies.

  • Manage and oversee consultant editors and graphic designers and ensure consistent high-quality materials in line with editing and branding and marking guidelines.

  • Manage and expand the influence and reach of USP’s Global Health newsletter.

  • Increase institutional capacity for communications by conducting trainings, sharing best practices, and participating in and leading communities of practices.

Social media

  • Lead the execution and refinement of USP’s Global Health social media strategy in coordination and alignment with broader corporate social strategies and plans for flagship platforms.

  • Increase social engagement of USP’s thought leaders and influencers through targeted social listening, identification of engagement opportunities, and refining messaging and posting strategies.

  • Strengthening staff capacity for social media engagement by conducting trainings, providing guidance, and developing strategies for expanding reach.

Events management

  • Track and strategically prioritize engagement opportunities at major international conferences, high-level meetings and events, webinars, and other engagement opportunities.

  • Conceptualize, plan, and manage logistics for engagement and presence at high-priority events.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, international affairs, communications, or related field.

  • Eight (8) years of experience in communications, advocacy, engagement, and/or writing for public health.

  • At least 5 years working in global health and donor-funded environments.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills and strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Ability to travel internationally 10-25%.

Skills sought

  • Ability to quickly absorb, synthesize, and translate complex technical topics and jargon into clear, concise messaging with relevance for broader audiences.

  • Social media savviness and experience developing, managing, and optimizing content and campaigns for major social media channels.

  • Experience developing optimized digital content for SEO and SEM campaigns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, international affairs, journalism, or related field.

  • Experience in health systems strengthening and/or pharmaceutical management.

  • Ability to work effectively in teams and a demonstrated ability to multi-task and work well under time constraints.

  • Experience working across multidisciplinary and international teams.

  • Experience working in low- and middle-income countries.

  • Experience with social media publishing, graphics, and analytics platforms and applications (e.g. HootSuite, Canva, etc.).
