The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) Manager, Accounting in Rockville, Maryland
Summary of the Position
This is a hands-on, supervisory position responsible for operational accounting and reporting, process improvement initiatives, compliance to U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), internal controls, and company policies, as well as, staff development.
Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the preparation and/or review of monthly corporate accounting journal entries, consolidations, and financial reporting for assigned functional areas that include verifications revenue accounting and fixed assets.
Perform and/or review account reconciliations and analytical procedures. Resolve issues and exceptions on a timely basis.
Research technical accounting issues and new standards, including drafting memos documenting application.
Identify, implement, and support technology and other process improvement initiatives to improve automation, productivity, controls, and changing business needs to advance this department within a fast-paced, rapidly changing organization.
Participate actively in monthly financial close and project meetings.
Orchestrate assignments, monitor team progress, and maintain schedules.
Manage preparation of supporting documentation and liase with auditors.
Maintain compliance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company policies.
Ensure key internal controls are operating effectively.
Develop, motivate, coach, and evaluate staff.
Perform other related duties and ad-hoc analysis as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 6 years of relevant work experience, including 2+ years of Big 4 or regional public accounting experience and 2 years of supervisory experience
Strong analytical skills to interpret financial impact of data
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools—advanced Excel skills
Experience with large ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft, OBIEE, Hyperion, BI)
Possess the right mix of technical accounting, general ledger accounting, financial analysis, and communication skills to collaborate effectively with functional departments.

- Manage senior accountant and/or staff accountant.
