The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) Manager, Internal Communications in Rockville, Maryland


The Manager, Internal Communications will be a key member of the People Experience, Change Management, and Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB) team and deliver impactful, integrated communications that informs USP employees about key people initiatives and inspires action and an inclusive culture. We are looking for a critical thinker and strategic writer, adept at translating complex concepts into simple, compelling narrative and that can write across a range of business-related articles from long-form to crisp, concise copy for digital articles and infographics. Successful candidates will have an innovative mindset and a focus on cultivating employee engagement, inclusive culture, and helping others connect where we are and where we're going through written format.

This role will drive projects from initial concept through final delivery and partner closely with Corporate Communications and Human Resources peers. It will also collaborate with a wide variety of other stakeholders to generate ideas, refine business information and conduct intake to refine writing projects.

The Manager, Internal Communications role will report to the Senior Director, Talent and People Experience.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Communications lead for people-related internal communications and create compelling communications that effectively deliver the necessary messages.

  • Write engaging communications across internal channels to drive awareness of People Strategy initiatives.

  • Collaborate with People Experience and DIB leaders and our partners to identify and develop creative, clear, concise stories and write and edit complex subjects into sharp, engaging pieces.

  • Influence stakeholders as needed to ensure communications are impactful and aligned with our desired tone.

  • Develop and bring a creative approach to writing, as appropriate for audience, and prioritize continuous. improvement to keep your writing fresh, engaging and cutting-edge, while consistently delivering in an excellent and engaging manner.

  • Develop strategies to leverage communication platforms and to promote initiatives in an innovative, strategic, holistic way (e.g. intranet, email, digital screens, print, etc.). Craft the people experience narrative to meet employees where they are and take them where they need to go.

  • Provides proactive editorial content planning, including an editorial calendar, to ensure message continuity, prioritization and placement of all relevant content needed by leaders and staff.

  • Track results and apply key learnings to improve future communications, content, and engagement.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Business, English, Communications, Journalism or related field or relevant experience as a writer in a corporate or non-profit organization

Preferred Qualifications/Desirable Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience

  • Strong written skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy to understand narratives to all levels of the organization

  • Demonstrated ability of developing and executing compelling, creative internal communications plans

  • Ability to rapidly comprehend information across a variety of workstreams and develop clear, impactful communications that allow for ease of understanding and sustainable messaging

  • Proficient at successfully driving projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment

  • Adept at managing multiple competing projects and re-prioritize, often in ambiguous and agile conditions

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and exert influence with impact and drive decisions

  • Aptitude for building trusting relationships and creating a harmonious work environment

  • Strong verbal and presentation skills

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
