Summary of the Position

Manager, Payroll is key position responsible for directing, coordinating, and controlling payroll preparation, processing distribution, and recordation to general ledger. The Manager ensures global payroll expenses and taxes are paid correctly and timely. The incumbent is methodical and analytical in administering payroll duties, utilizing deep knowledge of regulations, and also supervises the payroll team and liaise with internal partners and external professionals to ensure payroll procedures are compliant, efficient, and current.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management and timely completion of our US payrolls for approximately 1000 employees, as well as facilitates international payroll processing for expats and global payroll funding.

  • Maintain responsibility for reporting, auditing, and performing compliance duties, including reviewing discrepancy reports between the timekeeping and payroll systems to identify and resolve issues immediately.

  • Monitor, reassess, and implement payroll internal controls and execution of controls in accordance with policy.

  • Assist with quarterly and year-end processing and reconciliations.

  • Oversee internal payroll audits and support external regulatory financial audit, workers comp, and retirement plan audits.

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.

  • Keep abreast of advancements in payroll technology and operations. Implement operational efficiencies.

  • Maintain general ledger with regards to payroll transactions, including account reconciliations and journal entries.

  • Design and implement reporting and maintain statistics to support benchmarking.

  • Manage and resolve issues relating to payroll production, including ensuring staff inquiry resolution.

  • Supervises, coaches, and develops payroll staff.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.

  • 5 years of progressive payroll experience for mid-large sized global organization, including multi-state for a corporation.

  • 3 years experience in managing staff.

Skills Sought

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in payroll operations, including designing/analyzing processes and controls, planning improvements, driving changes, and managing priorities.

  • Demonstrated experience with domestic payroll and payroll tax compliance, multi-state payroll practices, and expatriate or shadow payrolls.

  • Experience with mid to large HCM, payroll and time/attendance systems, preferably UKG UltiPro and Kronos.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)

  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive payroll experience for mid-large sized global organization, including multi-state for a corporation.

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Certification preferred.

  • Knowledge of payroll accounting principles, practices, and procedures.

  • Experience with Oracle, UltiPro Payroll software, and UKG Kronos time/attendance systems preferred.

  • Prior experience with internal customer facing and payroll systems enhancements implementation, business intelligence report writing, and project management

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to creation and maintenance of pivot tables; use of vlookup and if/then functions

  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication (verbal/written) skills

  • Exceptional decision making, analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization and external customers, exhibiting professionalism and business partnering

  • Strong leader and team player.
