The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) Manager, Payroll in Rockville, Maryland
Summary of the Position
The Manager, Payroll position is a key role responsible for directing, coordinating, and controlling payroll preparation, processing and distribution. The Manager ensures global payroll expenses and taxes are paid correctly and timely. The successful candidate will be methodical and analytical in administering payroll duties, utilizing deep knowledge of regulations, and will also supervise the payroll team and liaise with internal partners and external professionals to ensure payroll procedures are compliant, efficient and current.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsible for the management and timely completion of our US payrolls for approximately 1000 employees, as well as facilitates international payroll processing for expats and global payroll funding.
Maintain responsibility for reporting, auditing, and performing compliance duties, including reviewing discrepancy reports between the timekeeping and payroll systems to identify and resolve issues immediately.
Maintain statistics to support bench-marking.
Monitor payroll internal controls and execution of controls in accordance with policy.
Assist with quarterly and year-end processing and reconciliations.
Oversee internal payroll and accounting audits.
Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
Keep abreast of advancements in payroll technology and operations. Implement operational efficiencies.
Maintain general ledger with regard to payroll transactions.
Manage and resolve issues relating to payroll production.
Supervises, coaches, and develops payroll staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.
At least 8 years of progressive payroll experience for mid-large sized global organization, including multi-state for a corporation.
At least 5 years of experience managing people.
Demonstrated experience with payroll operations, including analyzing processes and controls, planning improvements, driving changes, and managing priorities.
Demonstrated experience with domestic payroll and payroll tax compliance, multi-state payroll practices, and expatriate or shadow payrolls.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Certification preferred.
Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, and procedures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality is paramount.
Possession of excellent oral and written communication (verbal/written) skills, including collaborating with HR business partners and senior management comfortably.
Possession of excellent decision making, analytical, critical thinking, organizational, time management, multitasking, project management, leadership, and people management skills, including mentoring and developing direct reports.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with ADP Workforce Now, Oracle, and UltiPro Payroll software preferred.
Able to work flexible hours when needed.
