Brief Job Overview
Are you passionate about transforming data into valuable insights? Do you want to shape data infrastructure to help integrate new digital and informatics capabilities to an organization? The Informatics Pilots & Operations (IP&O) team at USP is looking an individual that thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, with a deep understanding of data architecture, ETL/ELT processes, and performance optimization.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and maintaining the data infrastructure and pipeline of our data-driven initiatives. You will have the opportunity to take on a strategic role in prototyping and shaping sustainable solutions to handle complex data challenges.
In this role, you will not only contribute to the technical aspects of data engineering, but also have the opportunity to interact with other leaders within the organization. Your ability to communicate and influence effectively with cross-functional teams, and stay at the forefront of emerging data technologies will be instrumental in driving our data engineering capabilities forward.
The Informatics Pilots & Operations (IP&O) Department identifies, validates, and builds informatics and digital relevant capabilities such as AI that will enrich, or create new ways of working at USP and/or the products we provide to our stakeholders. IP&O does so through development of solution-oriented prototypes to inform scale-up decisions.
How will YOU create impact here at USP?
Data Architecture and Infrastructure:
Design, prototype, and recommend scalable and robust data infrastructure that supports data ingestion, storage, processing, and retrieval.
Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance the data engineering capabilities.
Collaborate with data stewards and business users to integrate data governance practices and standards.
Data Integration and ETL/ELT:
Develop and maintain efficient and scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to acquire and transform data from various sources into usable formats.
Ensure the consistency, accuracy, and quality of data throughout the ETL/ELT process.
Monitor and troubleshoot data integration processes to identify and resolve issues and bottlenecks.
Performance Optimization:
Identify and implement strategies to optimize data processing and storage performance, including partitioning, indexing, and caching techniques.
Collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure scalability and reliability of data systems.
Conduct performance tuning and optimization of SQL queries and data processing jobs.
Collaboration and Leadership:
Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, software engineers, and business stakeholders, to experiment and understand data requirements and deliver effective data solutions.
Stay updated with emerging trends and technologies in the data engineering field and make recommendations for adoption.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Who USP is Looking For?
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
Strong proficiency in programming languages including Python, and willingness to learn additional languages.
Deep understanding of relational and non-relational databases, data modeling, and SQL.
Experience with big data technologies and frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
Proficiency in data integration and ETL/ELT tools like Apache Airflow or Informatica.
Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Familiarity with data governance principles and data quality frameworks.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, including ability to explain highly technical or complex issues to a non-technical audience.
Comfortable with task ambiguity and change.
Demonstrated ability to implement tasks independently and efficiently.
Additional Desired Preferences
Ability to write code in Scala, Java, or R.
Data visualization skills.
Familiarity with knowledge graph/graph database and AI capabilities including NLP, deep learning, and/or other AI models and systems.
Technical Master’s degree.
