Senior Director, USP Convention Strategy and Operation
The professional in this role will manage key elements of USP’s governance mechanisms, including leading the management and operations of the USP Convention and its key governance committees as well as designated responsibilities for management of the USP Board of Trustees. In addition, this leader will oversee USP’s global stakeholder engagement activities, ensuring that key relationships are developed and leveraged to create mutually beneficial collaborations that advance the quality of medicines, supplements, foods and healthcare quality.
Roles and Responsibilities
USP Convention Strategy . Lead and implement initiatives to shape the structure and operations of the USP Convention, working with the leadership of the USP Convention to build and implement a future-focused strategy for participation and engagement reflective of emerging trends in science and public health as well as USP’s evolving stakeholder base. She/he will build compelling communications to enlist Convention members and USP staff in the vision of the USP Convention of the future.
Manage USP Board and Convention governance . Oversee the development and maintenance of USP’s key governing documents, including Bylaws and Rules and Procedures for its governing and standards-setting bodies. Oversee efficient and effective management of the operations and meetings of USP’s governance bodies, including the Board and Convention Committees; ensuring compliance with USP’s governing documents and incorporation of governance best practices.
Lead the execution of the 2020 USP Convention . Oversee implementation of the plan for the 2020 USP Convention and future USP Convention meetings, leading the cross-functional team responsible for this effort. Play an important supporting role in the roll out of the USP 200 anniversary program, and its integration with the 2020 Convention.
Strategic stakeholder engagement . Oversee organizational engagement with priority stakeholder organizations ensuring that USP has relevant, impactful and compelling platform programs that enable meaningful engagement across key stakeholder communities. Develop and implement mechanisms to leverage stakeholder relationships to help advance USP program unit as well as enterprise objectives, working collaboratively across USP.
BA/BS in relevant field. Advanced degree in Public Policy, Communications, Law, Political Science, Pharmacy or other relevant field preferred.
10 years of experience working in a complex professional/trade association, industry or government in a role that required frequent, strategic and coordinated engagement with numerous stakeholders.
5 years of management experience working with the Board or other governance bodies of an association or corporate organization.
Demonstrated success working in a global, matrixed organization.
Strong written and verbal communications skills. Strategic communications experience a plus.
Solid experiences working in a science-based organization
Solid understanding of pharmaceutical sector stakeholders and relevant public policy, and regulatory topics.
Demonstrated success in Board governance roles
Demonstrated success in working globally and with stakeholders from many geographies
