Brief Job Overview

You can’t strengthen something if you don’t know weakness exists. USP’s Medicine Supply Map identifies, characterizes, and quantifies risk in the upstream pharmaceutical supply chain. We want to proactively protect patient access to quality medicines through the implementation of a directed acyclic graph, lots of string matching, and an interactive website. As of November 2022, we have a quarter of a billion data points to play with. How will YOU create impact here at USP?

• Deliver and share structured, clean, vectorized Python code

• Set standards, monitor compliance, and mentor technical team on software engineering standard methodologies

• Lead efforts to source, import, and integrate new supply chain data into the Medicine Supply Map

• Rapidly respond to customer requests for supply chain insights

• Perform exploratory data analysis, test working hypotheses, and uncover relationships within the Medicine Supply Map

• Build, maintain, and support machine learning models

• Work with product and technical team members to create requirements, support development, and resolve technical issues

• Partner with IT to drive functionality enhancements to existing platforms

• Build compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and reports for internal and external partners

• Set and lead internal and external partner expectations related to specific deliverables

• Perform other duties as assigned

Who USP is Looking For?

Senior Machine Learning Engineer Manager

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently build and productionalize large-scale data science projects from start to finish (defining internal/external stakeholder requirements, sourcing data, integrating data into our tech stack, analyzing downstream modeling implications, building compelling visualizations, and presenting findings to internal/external stakeholders)

  • Experience managing or mentoring junior staff

  • Undergraduate degree. Preferred majors in computer science, data science, or statistics.

  • At least 8 years of professional, technical experience

  • Ability to write scalable, clean, productionable Python and Pyspark code

  • Experience operating/maintaining a structured data engineering pipeline (e.g. Kedro)

  • Expertise in AWS cloud platform and version control software such as git

  • Solid time and project management skills

  • Comfort with task ambiguity and change, we are in a startup environment

Senior Machine Learning Engineer

  • Undergraduate degree. Preferred majors in computer science, data science, or statistics.

  • At least 5 years of professional, technical experience

  • Ability to write scalable, clean, productionable Python and Pyspark code

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently build and productionalize large-scale data science projects from start to finish (defining internal/external stakeholder requirements, sourcing data, integrating data into our tech stack, analyzing downstream modeling implications, building compelling visualizations, and presenting findings to internal/external stakeholders)

Additional Desired Preferences

  • Pharmaceutical industry knowledge

  • Full-stack expertise (MERN or similar) … we are building a website

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Experience leading direct client interactions

  • Ability to explain highly technical or complex issues to a non-technical audience 

  • STEM Master’s degree

  • Communication skills: we have lots of opportunities to publish blog posts and internal/external presentations
