The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) Senior Manager, Advanced Analytics in Rockville, Maryland
Summary of the Position
USP is seeking a hands-on analytics leader with deep strategy acumen to enable an insights-driven enterprise.
The Senior Manager, Data Strategy and Analytics is a supervisory position within the Strategy, Pricing, and Analytics department. The Data Strategy & Analytics (DS&A) teams lead data strategy, data management, and perform centralized business analytics, supporting all levels of the organization including the Executive Team. The Senior Manager is a strategically focused position that is responsible for one analytics component of DS&A’s remit. The Senior Manager accomplishes this through a high-performing team of analytics professionals with a diverse set of skills (e.g., forecasting, segmentation, data science modeling, statistical analytics, etc.). The DS&A teams are based in the USA, India and China, with this role managing the USA team. The Senior Manager works collaboratively across the organization to ensure analytical insights and tools are incorporated into decision making processes. In addition, the Senior Manager ensures continuity and quality of analytical work and collaboration between global teams and with internal clients. Finally, the Senior Manager ensures projects align to USP’s strategic questions, enabling development of strategies and tactics to meet USP’s enterprise objectives.
Roles and Responsibilities
Leads a team of analytics and data science professionals in the US, setting goals, developing talent, designing projects, managing workload and resourcing.
Designs and leads advanced analytics and data science projects in support of enterprise strategy, marketing, and business development efforts. Typical scope includes product demand forecasting, customer and market segmentation, decision modeling to support (strategic and tactical initiatives), predictive modeling of customer and market behavior.
Strategic thought partner to colleagues across USP on how to resolve unique business problems using analytics. Partners include program unit heads, site heads, strategy leaders, and executive leadership. Incumbent should have a passion for using data to drive business strategies and programs.
Contributes to DS&A’s roadmap, ensuring that DS&A analytics can support USP’s objectives going forward.
Collaborates with the Data Management function within DS&A to develop use cases for data assets and infrastructure to enable advanced analytics.
Manages external analytics vendors/service providers.
Bachelors in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Information Systems, Computer or other related fields
At least eight (8) years general experience with five (5) or more years specifically in business analytics, data or decision sciences,
At least three (3) years of team management experience in a commercial, government, NGO, or non-profit enterprise.
At least three (3) years of experience developing and implementing predictive analytics models.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Strong SQL skills
Strong Python and data science packages experience (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn, etc.)
Data visualization software such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.
MBA or other relevant Master’s degree preferred such as Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Information Systems, Computer or other related fields
Experienced in strategic and market competition concepts with demonstrated consulting ability
Preferred- 5 years of experience developing and implementing predictive analytics models.
Strong experience leading and developing junior analytics team members- focus on continuous growth
Demonstrated learning agility
Experience developing and interpreting complex logical data models (ERDs) in support of analytics
Expert at telling stories with data, distilling complex data projects to critical insights for non-technical audience (visualization and insights communications).
Experience with Git, codebase management, CI/CD, SDLC, and moving ML algorithms into production env.
Influential communications skills required: Verbal, written, and visual. Able to communicate a unique perspective in a way that impacts others’ thinking.
Thrives in fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent projects
Excellent time and project management skills
Preferred- content experience or undergraduate majors in chemistry, biology, or other science degree a plus.
Has the ability to deal with ambiguity independently
Has the ability to work at all levels of the organization
Has the ability to work across a global company
Pharma industry experience a plus
Manages 3-4 direct reports (Data analysts and Data Scientists)
