Brief Job Overview

You can’t strengthen something if you don’t know where weakness exists. United States Pharmacopeia (USP) recently launched the Medicine Supply Map with the mission of helping to end drug shortages and ensure patient access to quality medicines. The Medicine Supply Map identifies, characterizes, and quantifies risk in the upstream pharmaceutical supply chain so that stakeholders can take proactive steps to avoid or mitigate drug shortages. To support the growth of this new product and business, we have an opening for a Senior Product Manager.

How will YOU create impact here at USP?

This position plays a critical role bringing new data and insights to customers in healthcare, pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution, and government. The successful applicant will lead product strategy and drive customer adoption by understanding data assets and analytics opportunities and how they can be leveraged to meet customer needs throughout the generic pharmaceutical supply chain. The position reports to the Senior Manager – New Digital Products Development, in the Digital and Innovation division. As the lead for short and long-term strategy for the product, the successful candidate will interact closely with customers, the technical development team, marketing, and communications, and USP senior and executive leadership. The successful candidate will also apply an understanding of USP’s domestic and global role, pharmaceutical industry trends, and customer needs while creating value for USP and for USP’s customers.

The role is responsible for defining, shaping, directing, and executing the strategy for the Medicine Supply Map. In addition to overall strategy, the successful candidate will manage product lifecycle, business development, and own P&L for the product.

• Responsible for top-line revenue and user adoption for the Medicine Supply Map.

• Applies knowledge of consultative sales to convert leads into customers.

• Collaborates with Marketing and Communications to develop sales and marketing campaigns that create awareness for and adoption of the Medicine Supply Map.

• Defines short and long-term product strategy, objectives, and implementation roadmap through understanding, anticipating, and prioritizing customer needs, bringing long-term value for both customers and USP.

• Defines key product and business performance metrics to research and analyze business data driving increased public health and/or revenue impact.

• Works closely with development team on highly technical aspects of Medicine Supply Map development. Prior experience with the development of software and informatics products targeting technical/scientific end-users is a strong plus.

• Leverages knowledge of the pharmaceutical supply chain landscape and processes to help develop informatics tools and solutions that meet evolving customer needs.

• Acts as primary point of contact for all internal and external product-related inquiries, developing strong relationships with users to obtain information on customer usage, experience, and pain points.

• Continually works to improve the customer experience, identify, and fill knowledge gaps, and to create opportunities for future growth and increase USP’s global impact.

• Provides both internal training for employees and external training for customers on basic and advanced understanding of how to use the Medicine Supply Map.

Who USP is Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree

• Seven years of product management experience in a scientific or technical field

• Demonstrated experience in leading projects and cross functional teams.

Additional Desired Preferences

• Masters (MS, MBA) or advanced degree (PhD, PharmD).

• Experience with pharmaceutical supply chain planning or operations.

• Experience with healthcare analytics products.

• Experience with consultative sales in a technical industry with technical clientele.

• Demonstrated ability to shape vision and strategy.

• Demonstrated ability to manage and influence cross-functional teams, without formal reporting relationships.

• Demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving or ambiguous goals and deliver successful outcomes.

• Demonstrated ability to work iteratively and using agile principles.

• Self-motivated and self-directed. An agile and quick learner committed to adapting to changing technologies, regulations, and customer needs.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex or technical ideas clearly to people with different backgrounds, and at different levels of seniority.

• Excellent relationship-building, partnering, facilitating, negotiating, and influencing skills, especially the ability to influence without direct authority.

• Strong end-product focus and pragmatism.

• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Design-thinking and agile development experience is a plus.

• User experience or user interface design experience is a plus.
