(Senior) Strategic Communications Specialist
The (Senior) Strategic Communications Specialist is a hands-on, non-supervisory position responsible for supporting the development and execution of strategic communications plans and projects. The position requires a strategic and creative thinker that is an excellent writer, researcher, digital-savvy and great at keeping projects moving forward within a fast-paced communications environment. The candidate will work in a collaborative environment within the global communications team on projects designed to foster greater understanding of the importance of quality medicines and the role standards play in improving health outcomes for people around the world.
The candidate will have various assignments including developing communications strategies, conducting research and analyzing trends to develop actionable insights, creating compelling and results-focused multi-media content and managing projects and tracking key performance metrics. The candidate is highly motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail and a focus on quality within the required schedule.
Roles and Responsibilities
Support the planning and execution of strategic communications plans to build support for advocacy programs that seek to strengthen current and future medicines quality policies and regulations in the US and around the world, educate publics about USP’s scientific approach and its contribution to quality standards, encourage proper use of USP standards among manufacturers, regulators and others and create awareness and action to reduce poor quality and counterfeit medicines in low and middle-income countries.
Research, review and analyze industry reports, media articles, and social media engagement to inform communications programs and support messaging
Write, edit, and proofread compelling content for web, print, and social media; e.g., infographics, brochures, ads, enewsletters, media advisories
Assist in project management and execution of strategic initiatives and highly visible events
Monitor and analyze project results
Contribute to monthly dashboard report
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in English, Marketing Communications, Advertising, Program Management or relevant field
Minimum of three (3) years of communications experience; minimum of five (years) for senior position
Demonstrated experience in a variety of communications areas (i.e. Marketing, Social Media, PR, Trade Shows etc.)
Highly curious, strategic, creative and imaginative
Excellent ability to use content to translate complex topics for better understanding among different types of audiences
Assist in developing communications strategies
Keen eye and attention to detail, especially in copywriting and editing, including AP Style
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage projects involving multiple departments while managing competing priorities and communicate effectively when priorities shift
Experience working effectively independently and in a collaborative environment
Pharmaceutical or public health industry knowledge a plus
