Team Leader Pharmaceutical Science, General Chapters
This is a management position in the General chapters department within the Science Division, providing scientific and professional leadership for a core activity at USP. The incumbent is responsible for leading technical staff in the development and revision of general chapters in the USP-NF , in the area of Packaging and distribution; Microbiology, and Dosage forms and supports the pertinent USP Expert Committees and associated Expert Panels.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provides scientific and professional leadership to SLs working in the area of Packaging and distribution; Microbiology, and Dosage forms general chapters development and revision in accordance with established SOPs, business practices and procedures;
Provides support to the USP Expert Committee; monitors Work Plan activities and facilitates progress;
Manages staff workload, deliverables and output; provides updates to the department Director ;
Advises direct reports on general chapters development and revision strategies;
Prepares and conducts performance reviews for direct reports;
Develops goals and related performance plans for direct reports;
Participates in USP-based teams or committees to support business practices and initiatives;
Participates in the development of manuscripts for publication by USP (e.g., Stimuli articles) or in peer-reviewed journals;
Represents USP at scientific conferences/meetings, and other events sponsored by USP and/or pharmaceutical industry and regulatory agencies;
Participates in the teaching and/or development of USP’s professional education course materials, as needed;
Performs other duties as assigned.
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or allied field with a minimum of 10 years, or M.S. and 12 years of relevant experience with USP-NF tests and standards required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising, leading teams, training, or mentoring of other staff members. Exceptional knowledge of compendial standards related to pharmaceutical products/industry also required as is knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidelines for pharmaceuticals (e.g., FDA, ICH, etc). An equivalent combination of experience and education may be substituted.
Demonstrated technical leadership and people management skills is essential.
Demonstrated stakeholder collaboration experience, with the ability to quickly develop and manage internal and extern111al relationships and contacts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to develop and deliver presentations to Senior Management and the entire organization.
Demonstrated research, technical, and analytical skills, as well as the ability to take highly technical scientific information and make strategic recommendations quickly.
Ability to develop and implement training plans. Demonstrated experience managing and participating in multiple projects. Able to drive the standards setting process with diplomacy and enthusiasm.
