Brief Job Overview

The Associate Data Engineer position is a hands-on non-supervisory role within the Data Strategy & Analytics team. The position is an individual contributor role that will serve support analytics teams by designing, building, and executing efficient and governed data pipelines, finding, and developing data assets, and across USP to support data processes used in reporting and analytics. Activities include basic data cleaning, wrangling, data extractions and transformations, and data load processes. The incumbent must be proficient in python and SQL to perform data operations to extract data from files (xml), websites, databases, and webservices.

The Associate Data Engineer has the following responsibilities:

• Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements in the pharmaceutical domain.

• Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture for pharmaceutical data.

• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.

• Work with stakeholders including the Strategy, Pricing, Analytics, RPO, and IT teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.

• Collaborate with IT and data strategy team to integrate data warehouse, analytics applications, and data science platforms.

• Support transition to agile approaches for data asset development and deployment.

• Support transition to a SDLC approach to data asset and data science product development and deployment

• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and practices in the pharmaceutical industry.

Who is USP Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

• Minimum bachelor’s degree (computer science, data analytics/science program, or other program requiring basic coding skills).

• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, data science, advanced analytics, machine learning, or similar role (excluding classwork this can be combination of work, work study, and/or internship).

• Experience with data extraction and scraping.

• Experience with typical python packages such as numpy, pandas, requests, beautifulsoup4, regex, and selenium.

• Experience with XML documents and DOM model.

• Intermediate knowledge of regular expressions.

• Proficiency in SQL.

Additional Desired Preferences

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical area.

• Ability to handle multiple priorities and complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience with SDLC and Agile work environments.

• Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (Deployment) software development approach.

• Substantial experience with Git for version control Concepts of good coding practices, writing scalable vectorized code.

• Prior experience in a scientific based industry or related content area a plus (pharma, life sciences, public health, research, etc.).

• Experience with Apache Spark and or PySpark.
